Governor Bryant Proclaims Automotive Industry Week in Mississippi
Jackson, Miss. (Feb. 27, 2015) – Gov. Phil Bryant has proclaimed March 1-7 as Automotive Industry Week in Mississippi, honoring the industry’s vital role in the state’s economy.
From the production of the first vehicle in Mississippi more than 10 years ago until now, automotive manufacturing in the state has grown into an industry that includes 89 international companies working from 108 sites. Throughout that time, Mississippi’s automotive industry has contributed more than $4.1 billion in investments to the state’s economy and produced more than 3.4 million vehicles.
Governor Bryant’s proclamation also celebrates the nearly 200 automotive supplier companies that employ more than 40,000 workers in Mississippi.
“The tremendous impact automotive manufacturing continues to have in our state cannot be overstated,” Gov. Bryant said. “Mississippi workers have not only contributed to the extraordinary growth of this industry, but they have also awakened others to the abundant opportunities here.
“Every part made in a Mississippi plant and every vehicle than rolls off a Mississippi assembly line reaffirms our commitment to quality. That commitment, combined with our supportive business climate, has garnered the state numerous national rankings, including being named number six in the country for the overall cost of doing business and number three for competitive labor costs.”
“Mississippi’s position as a leader in the southern automotive corridor is due to the dedicated hard work and collaboration of the state’s leaders and the private sector,” said David A. Boyer, MAMA president and retired vice president of Nissan Canton. “We have had an exciting 10 years of growth, and we are looking forward to many more successful years and new opportunities in the automotive industry.
“We appreciate Gov. Bryant for proclaiming this week as ‘Automotive Industry Week’ in Mississippi, as we celebrate one of the state’s major industry sectors that is helping build stronger communities throughout our state.”
During Automotive Industry Week, the Mississippi Automotive Manufacturers Association will celebrate its 10th anniversary with events scheduled from March 2-7. For more information, please visit www.mamaonline.net.
