Free Connecting Energy Education with Energy Management workshop
Jackson, Mississippi — February 19, 2019 — The Mississippi Development Authority’s Energy and Natural Resources Division is hosting a free workshop, Connecting Energy Education with Energy Management, on Wednesday, February 20, in Hernando. The workshop will be held in the DeSoto County Schools Central Services Board Room #137A, located at 5 East South Street. Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the workshop begins at 8:30 a.m.
The goal of the workshop is to provide practical ideas for teaching energy concepts and implementing hands-on, interdisciplinary energy units into schools’ curriculum. The one-day workshop will provide beneficial information to school district representatives from the following departments: administration/finance, curriculum and facilities/operations. One or more teachers also are encouraged to attend.
The workshop, which will be presented by master teachers from the National Energy Education Development Program, or NEED, will provide the tools, curriculum and hands-on classroom kits needed to help schools meet energy-specific goals, as well as the overall goals of the district. A continuing education credit of 0.6 units also is available for those who attend the workshop through the Office of Continuing Education at Mississippi College.
NEED designs and delivers teacher-tested educational materials, evaluation techniques and tools, recognition of student achievement and professional development for educators. NEED materials and training programs provide comprehensive, objective information about the scientific concepts of energy and the sources of energy, such as their use and their impact on the environment, the economy and society.
