Behold Washington increasing furniture production in Pontotoc, creating 20 jobs

Jackson, Mississippi — June 20, 2019 — Upholstered furniture manufacturer Behold Washington is expanding its operations in Pontotoc. The project is a $400,000 corporate investment and will create 20 jobs.

“The furniture manufacturing industry excels in North Mississippi, with thousands of Mississippians producing some of the finest quality furniture found in the U.S.,” Gov. Phil Bryant said. “Behold Washington’s growth in Pontotoc further strengthens the region’s position as a leader in this important sector and demonstrates Mississippians strive for excellence in the furniture they produce.”

Behold Washington, which also has manufacturing operations in Smithville, produces motion and stationary furniture, including sofas, recliners and accent chairs. The company is expanding into a facility adjacent to its main plant. Earlier this month, Behold Washington held a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of its new 400,000-square-foot warehouse located at the main plant. The new warehouse replaces one destroyed by a fire in September.

“We continue to expand our footprint here in Pontotoc, and we don’t have any plans of slowing down,” said Behold Washington Vice President of Sales John Beard. “Pontotoc has an excellent workforce and has always been a great environment to expand operations.”

The Mississippi Development Authority is assisting with building improvements at the new facility. The city of Pontotoc is purchasing the new facility and will lease it to Behold Washington.

“The Mississippi Development Authority is pleased to support Behold Washington as they rebuild with an expansion in Pontotoc. Behold Washington’s dedication to its employees and Pontotoc County is evident through its capital investment, which is creating more career opportunities for people in Pontotoc County who have proven their ability to produce quality upholstered furniture,” said MDA Executive Director Glenn McCullough, Jr. “The strong teamwork of Three Rivers Planning and Development District, the city of Pontotoc and MDA was instrumental in supporting Behold Washington as they rebuild stronger and better than ever.”

Behold Washington currently employs 215 workers in Pontotoc. The company expects to begin operations in its new facility by early fall.
