Bryant to lead Mississippi Delegation at Southeast U.S.-Canadian Provinces Alliance Event

Jackson, Mississippi — April 10, 2018 — Governor Phil Bryant and the Mississippi Development Authority invite Mississippi companies to participate in the Southeast U.S. – Canadian Provinces Alliance’s 11th Annual Conference and Matchmaking Mission. The business development event takes place June 3-5 at the historic Battle House Hotel in Mobile, Alabama.

“Trade between Canada and Mississippi continues to grow at a fast pace, bringing new career opportunities with economic prosperity for both regions,” said MDA Executive Director Glenn McCullough, Jr. “The SEUS-CP Alliance Conference provides opportunities to connect with approximately 250 delegates who share the common goal of growing trade between the Southeast U.S. and Canada for mutual benefit.”

In 2017, Mississippi exports to Canada totaled $2.2 billion, once again making Canada the state’s number one trading partner. Mississippi’s top exports to Canada include vehicles, machinery, electrical machinery, plastic, furniture and bedding.

MDA’s International Trade Office assists participating companies by coordinating pre-arranged, on-site business meetings with prospective buyers and importers. In addition to business-to-business meetings, the event includes panel sessions on transportation and energy.

The SEUS-CP Alliance is a strategic partnership promoting trade and investment opportunities between its member states and provinces. In addition to Mississippi, member states include Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Member provinces include Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Québec.

Grant assistance to defray the cost of participating in the business development mission is available to eligible companies on a first-come, first-served basis through the U.S. Small Business Administration-funded Mississippi State Trade Expansion Program. This includes up to 100 percent of travel costs, including lodging and per diem, free pre-mission market research and business potential assessment.

The cost to register for the 11th Annual SEUS-CP Alliance Conference is $350. The registration deadline is May 25. To register, please visit www.seuscp.com. For more information, contact Vickie Watters Martin at (601) 359-3155 or vwatters@mississippi.org
