Jackson, Mississippi — May 19, 2016— Mississippi Development Authority and Continental have launched a website, www.mississippi.org/continental, to promote upcoming contracting opportunities available at the company’s future tire manufacturing facility near Clinton, Mississippi.
Mississippi vendors and contractors can register to receive notifications regarding Continental RFP opportunities. The website also provides important updates and timelines in regards to the plant’s construction.
“Opportunities for Mississippi businesses to work on the Continental project are abundant,” said MDA Executive Director Glenn McCullough, Jr. “Mississippi Development Authority encourages Mississippi vendors and contractors to visit the site to learn more about how to take advantage of this opportunity.”
Continental will use the submitted information when considering vendors and contractors. Registrants must provide company information, category of service, a brief description of the service provided and denote if the company is a minority, woman, veteran or disabled-owned business, a small business or a Mississippi Disadvantaged Business Enterprise.
Registering with the site is not a guarantee of work, and only Mississippi-based vendors and contractors may register. Out-of-state vendors and contractors may not register. Mississippi Development Authority does not have any input regarding the selection of vendors and contractors.
“This opportunity reinforces our commitment to the people of Mississippi and to the local communities in which Continental serves,” said Alex Chmiel, director of marketing for commercial vehicle tires at Continental. “This is an exciting phase of the project for everyone.”
The website will also include a portal for Mississippi residents seeking employment at Continental once employment opportunities become available.
In February 2016, Governor Phil Bryant and officials from Continental announced the company would locate the plant, the company’s most technologically advanced in North America, in Hinds County. A $1.45 billion corporate investment, the new plant will be located on Norrell Road off I-20 West near Clinton.
Site preparation is currently underway, and the plant’s ground breaking is slated for November 2016. Construction will begin in January 2018.
