Energy Awareness Month

The U.S. Department of Energy has designated October as Energy Awareness Month. The Mississippi Development Authority Energy Division will be celebrating the month of October with fun, educational activities and has chosen this year’s theme as "A Sustainable Energy Future: Putting all the Pieces Together." We invite you to help us celebrate Energy Awareness Month, so mark the following dates on your calendar.

Thursday, October 1 - Governor Barbour proclaims October as Energy Awareness Month through written proclamation.

Wednesday, October 7—Energy Star Day
Location: All over the World
Activity: As an ENERGY STAR partner, MDA will join the U.S. Department of Environmental Quality, the U.S. Department of Energy and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to promote the ENERGY STAR® Change the World, Start with ENERGY STAR Campaign. The campaign is a national call-to-action to encourage individuals to help change the world, one light, one energy-saving step at a time.

Thursday, October 15, 2009—Regional Strategy for Biobased Products in the Mississippi Delta
Location: Copeland, Cook, Toylor & Bush, P.A.

Times: 4-6 p.m.
Activity: Hear presentations to discuss the conclusions of a five-state study that examined how established industries such as agriculture, biotechnology and chemistry can merge to create a new bioeconomy that is already valued at more than $140 billion in global sales. The study, led by Memphis Bioworks Foundation, examined potential for agriculture and forestry revitalization through the development of new markets in 98 Delta counties across Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee.

Tuesday, October 20—Stennis Space Center Energy Awareness Day
Location: Stennis Space Center, MS
Times: 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Activity: Stennis Space Center will host its 3rd annual Energy Awareness Day for thousands of employees. The Mississippi Development Authority will continue the “Change the World, Start with ENERGY STAR Campaign” at this event.

Wednesday, October 28—Utilizing Renewable Energy in Mississippi
Location: Vicksburg Convention Center, Vicksburg, MS
Times: 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Activity: Learn valuable information about how your building or facility can save energy and money. This workshop will offer speakers covering an array of topics such as geothermal applications, funding and installations for geothermal, solar energy and alternative fuels for vehicles. The session will address cost savings issues and ways to reduce energy costs through the use and implementation of these applications.
Registration: Attendee- $40
Audience: Schools, IHLs, energy and facility managers, fleet managers, commercial and industrial business owners and local citizens interested in renewable energy are encouraged to participate in this event.
