MDA Stimulus Funding



The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and MDA's Role in Administering Stimulus Funds for Mississippi

As a result of the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), the $787-billion economic stimulus legislation that President Obama recently signed into law, Mississippi is receiving up to $2.8 billion, with the opportunity to acquire even more through a competitive grant process.

The following provides a brief overview of the programs created or affected by ARRA; for detailed information, please select the appropriate button located to the left of this page, or select the links below.

  • CDBG Program - ARRA allocated $8,071,710 in CDBG funds to the State of Mississippi for general public infrastructure improvement purposes for local units of government. For detailed information, select the CDBG program button to the left, or click here.
  • HPRP - ARRA created a new program to assist homeless persons and persons at-risk of becoming homeless. Mississippi received $13,348,427 for these activities. For detailed information, select the HPRP button to the left, or click here.
  • NSP - The Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 (HERA) created a new program and provided $43,151,914 to the State of Mississippi for activities related to stabilizing neighborhoods impacted by the foreclosed housing crisis.   • SEP - The U.S. Department of Energy allocated $40,418,000 in SEP funds to the State of Mississippi to improve the energy efficiency of homes, commercial and industrial buildings, businesses, schools, and transportation. For detailed information, select the SEP button to the left, or click here.
  • EECBG - The U.S. Department of Energy allocated Mississippi $9,593,500 in EECBG funds. At least 60 percent of these funds will go to non-entitlement local units of government to create sustainable "green" environments and improve energy efficiency in buildings, transportation and other sectors. Neighborhood Stabilization Program

The Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) targets areas of the state that have high rates of home and property foreclosure, due largely to the financial distress created by subprime loans.
