MS-NEED Project
In collaboration with the National Energy Education Development Project , Energy staff members provide energy management activities and workshops for Mississippi's students and teachers. Program materials and activities are based in sound science education and are developed in the spirit of achieving the goals of the National Standards for Science Education. These energy education programs encourage critical thinking and cooperative learning, and have been shown to improve test scores and develop leadership skills in youth. The Energy Network Program is currently planning the workshop agenda for the 2008-2009 academic year. Workshops are free, but space is limited. Contact Lisa Campbell today to find out how you can participate.

Energy Patrol Program
Can turning lights off in empty classrooms save money? It certainly can!
Would your school district rather spend money on field trips and library books than utility bills? It definitely would!
The Mississippi Development Authority/Energy Division developed the Energy Patrol Program which can help a school save money and energy by implementing a few simple efficiency measures throughout the school. Reducing a school’s energy budget can increase dollars available for use elsewhere in the school. Best of all, the Energy Patrol Program is free. A great extracurricular activity and motivational tool, the Energy Patrol Program involves organized teams of students that patrol assigned areas of the school building. Students are trained to check for energy waste, such as building lights left on in unoccupied areas, broken or cracked windows, or leaky faucets in bathrooms. This program is designed for students in grades 3 through 7. The Energy Patrol package consists of an attractive reference binder with a comprehensive teacher’s manual and exciting new videotape that brings the program to life for both teacher and student. The Energy Patrol Coordinator is available to provide hands-on assistance to help you get started. And all of this is FREE! To find out how you can get this program started in your school, contact Lisa Campbell. And look for more information as we keep you updated on how you can start this new and innovative program in your school!
