Asset Development Group

The Asset Development Group is a new initiative within MDA created to focus on non-traditional economic development opportunities unique to Mississippi. Such opportunities often require longer term development and support than traditional projects or grants.

  • Mississippi communities comprise a diverse set of great places to live, work, worship, and raise families. Much of our uniqueness derives from assets like cultural heritage, hospitality, unspoiled waterways, forests, natural resources, infrastructure, and recreational choices. The Asset Development Group looks for creative ways to develop and utilize these assets to improve the quality of life and economic wellbeing of Mississippi citizens.

Asset Development Group Offices:

  • Appalachian Regional Commission – The Mississippi office of the 13-state ARC region seeks to leverage and enhance assets in Mississippi’s 24 ARC counties.
  • Mississippi Main Street Association (MMSA) – MMSA encourages the development and improvement of central business districts in cities and towns across Mississippi.
  • Natural Resources – The Office of Natural Resources seeks to expand and enhance the development of Mississippi’s abundant natural resources.
  • Strategic Initiatives – The Office of Strategic Initiatives seeks to take advantage of the numerous opportunities to develop and leverage Mississippi’s diverse assets ranging from military bases and industries, to quality rural and downtown living, to music, history, art, and other cultural resources.
    • Delta Regional Authority – The Mississippi office of the 8-state DRA region is incorporated into the Office of Strategic Initiatives and seeks to leverage public, business and workforce assets in Mississippi’s 45 DRA counties.
    • Mississippi Military Communities Council – By executive order, Gov. Haley Barbour brought Mississippi communities with major military installations together to form the MMCC with a mission to defend and expand military operations. The Office of Strategic Initiatives coordinates the activities of MMCC.
