Office of Natural Resources
MDA’s Office of Natural Resources works to facilitate the wise development and utilization of Mississippi’s abundant resources, while working to conserve and preserve our habitat and the natural beauty of our landscape. As a part of this responsibility, our office explores new opportunities for natural energy sources such as oil, natural gas, CO2, salt domes and lignite coal. We’re also involved in the promotion of alternative fuels and energies and the development of lakes to enhance the quality of life for our citizens and the tourists of our state.

Another responsibility of this office is the administration of the State Mineral Lease Program. All seismic permits and oil and gas leases covering the state’s non-educational minerals are handled through this office.
The Office of Natural Resources has an active relationship with the Governor’s Office, Mississippi’s Congressional delegation and the state legislature to analyze our state’s natural resource potential.
