The Existing Industry and Business Division consists of a Retention and Expansion Team, Industry Assistance Bureau, and Industry Resource Bureau. Its objective is to provide services that result in retention and expansion of existing in-state industries and the creation of new industries and to ensure that the needs of Mississippi businesses and economic development practitioners are met. The primary purpose is to identify and meet the needs of existing and homegrown businesses in Mississippi.
The Retention and Expansion Team works in coordination with the eight regional offices located throughout the State to market the State's resources for manufacturers and businesses. A statewide visitation program coordinated with the economic development community ensures regular contact with industry and identifies and meets the needs of business in a timely manner.
The Industry Assistance staff promotes growth in the state's economy by providing management and technical assistance to new and existing businesses. Counseling and information services are offered at no cost to individuals interested in starting a new business or expanding an existing firm. Clients typically range from large manufacturers to small retail and commercial businesses. Some of the typical services provided are assisting in the preparation of business plans and financial projections, recommending sources of financing, analyzing financial statements, assisting in identifying target markets, advising on marketing strategies, identifying potential customers, and providing input on new product ideas. The Entrepreneur's Tool Kit has been created to assist new Mississippi businesses.
The Industry Resources Bureau creates, designs and implements several programs to help rising businesses in the state, as well as, providing assistance in marketing, information and job creation for existing companies. Programs include Manufacturers Cross-Match, Governor's Cup Awards, and the Mississippi Market.
